Are you bored with your current decor? Be daring and creative and try stripes. Stripes are a poular design and mix well with all decor. You can paint stripes on your wall, buy striped furniture or dress up your bedroom with striped bedding. There are endless options of striped bedding and designs range from baby to adult.
The key to successfully decorating with stripes is to use them as the focal point while pulling in other designs.
Here is a helpful tip from Mara Oakes off of the Associated Content website:
“Stripes can look too ‘hectic’ if they are not balanced with more simple décor. That is why it is important to counteract striped furnishings with design elements which are more restful and plain. For instance, a striped blind looks great against a solid light colored wall. A useful tip is to try to make sure striped furnishings are placed against other solid areas of color. This will give the eye a rest from the busy pattern of stripes.”
Go bold, go monotone, go multi colored. Whichever stripe you choose, the pattern will add interest to your room. Large stripes make a bold statement, small stripes create texture and interest. Stripes draw in the eye, so make sure your colors compliment each other and use other patterns for pop and contrast. Dual tones, i.e. blue and white, are crisp and clean and keeps a room simple.
Multi stripes add flair and fun, use solids to accent the overall color scheme. A multi stripe gives one many options and you can easily change the overall look by pulling out a different accent color.
So do something daring this spring and add stripes to your decor. There are lots of great patterns and colors to choose from…your options are only limited to your own creativity.
